Some 28 mm figures from Death May Die.  When you zoom in on single minis like this, it is quite apparent how slipshod the painting actually is. But I consider them good enough to play the board game.  My quality may be questionable, but I'm trying to keep up with quantity!

Painting Challenge: Jan 5 - 11, 2020

Week ending January 11, 2020

Unfortunately a slow week for painting.  I did get to some Joan of Arc (Time of Legends) figures.  I'm working on the Ottoman army right now.

Here are two bases of Ottoman swordsmen (3 to a base).

More Cthulhu: Death May Die

Cthulhu:

Star Spawn

Dagon

Yog Sothoth

Danse Macabre Skeletons

From Time of Legends: Joan of Arc.  Six 18 mm skeletons dancing wildly with heads back. Based.

Crossbowmen

18 mm crossbowmen from Time of Legends: Joan of Arc. Based.

More foot soldiers for Joan of Arc

Some more 18 mm foot soldiers (halberdiers and pikemen).  In this case I am trying a new (to me) method of using a transparent acrylic base so that the printed gameboard terrain will show through.  Interesting concept, although extra work to trim the bases off the minis and pin them into the acrylic.

Points Earned

Entering the week: 125 points

1 @ 28 mm vehicle:  1 x 10 = 10
3 @ 28 mm large vehicle*:  3 x 12.5 = 37.5
18 @ 18 mm foot figure**:  18 x 3 = 54
12 @ 18 mm based:  12 x 3 x 0.2 = 7.2

Weekly total:  108.7 points

End of week campaign total: 233.7 points

* Cthulhu is quite large (85 mm to the top of the head, 110 mm to the top of the wings), so I decided to assign it 12.5 points instead of 10.  The system calls for 10 for a mounted figure and 20 for a vehicle.  Cthulhu is not as big as a 28 mm tank, but definitely bigger than a 28 mm mounted figure, so that's my logic.  I did the same for Dagon, who is about as big as Cthulhu. And Yog is about 80 mm, so gave him 12.5 points as well.

** I'm using 3 points for an 18 mm foot soldier figure - interpolated from 2 for a 15 mm figures and 4 for a 20 mm figure.

I took the photos before I cleaned up the base - sorry about that.

Servants of the deep

Ernest Hemingway

Albert Einstein

Disciples of Hastur

I'm really bad at painting yellow... :-(

Hastur

OK, so Hastur is really big (see the 28 mm fig next to him). I'm going to count this one as a vehicle instead of a mounted figure.

Planning for the future...
Here's a comparison of Flames of War (15mm) and Time of Legends (18mm) figures.  Although clearly the 18mm figures are taller than 15 mm, they are definitely not 20 mm.  Our system awards 2 points for 15 mm soldier, 4 points for a 20 mm soldier.  The Time of Legends models don't warrant 4 points.  But I'm wondering if these guys should be worth 2 or 3 points each?

End of Competition - April 15, 2020

The last bit... The competition is reaching an end, and I managed to get a little bit done before the deadline of APril 15, 2020. Gog is...
